The Varsity Roo Tennis team closed out the Regular season last night as they traveled to Chisholm Trail and took on the Rangers looking to improve playoff seeding. It was a back and forth and exciting night the Roos found themselves just short of the victory. Although they didn’t win the match it was an impressive overall fight as we saw some unbelievable tennis played on both sides. It can be agreed that everyone in attendance and both coaching staffs would agree no one lost but one team just happened to score one more point. The 9-10 was even closer than the score would indicate as the Roos led 4-3 after the doubles portion of the evening and then in the singles portion saw 6 out of 12 matches go to a third set tie break. It was truly a back and forth affair and was very exciting to watch as it seemed that on every court every point truly did matter. When the singles matches started the Roos found themselves down in 6 of the 7 matches playing 1 set to 0 but ended up winning 4 of those matches in tiebreaks. Trevor Craft, Marissa Bosco, Emma Melvin and Perla Suazo all found themselves down but battled to win in a third set tiebreak. Cameron McClelland, Michael Taylor played and fought hard but lost in Third set Tiebreaks. The second half of the Singles portions saw the Roos needing 2 wins winning 8-6. Austin Markwardt made short work of his opponent winning 6-0,6-0 and giving the Roos a much needed 9th victory. The night ended with what seemed to be the story of the night as Hailey Toten battled back from losing a first set to forcing a third set tie break. It was a back and forth match that saw both teams really working hard hitting great shots and incredible rallies. After much back and forth the tiebreak saw the Roos fall just short with a 10-8 score. Again although the night was not a win in the books it was a victory for the program as we saw some incredible tennis and battling efforts. It was an awesome night of Tennis and now we will travel to Keller on Tuesday at 2:00 pm for a playoff match. This year has been incredible and we look forward to having a chance to extend it. If you have a chance be sure to congratulate these athletes on an awesome season and wish them good luck in the postseason. Players of the night were Trevor Craft who showed some much needed emotion and drive to win his singles and doubles match, Marissa and Shelbi Ruthesell who finished district with an unbeaten doubles record, Averi Breedlove who played some of her best tennis all year, and Emma, Marissa, Perla, Hailey, Michael and Cameron for battling and fighting in some very fun tennis games during the team match.
